Why yes, I do more than "workout" all day!

It is so funny when I get messages like, "Wow, you garden too, I thought you were just into fitness?"  Well actually I am a mom, I cook, I clean, I garden, I take care of many animals, and yes I do my workout daily.  My workout is less than 4% of my day (30 minutes a day) but my nutrition is 24 hour of my day.....that battle is real.  So I plant a garden every year so I can just walk outside and pick my veggies without the worry of GMO's or pesticides.  It doesn't take much space or time, just use a planter box any size for whatever space you have, water daily, and reap the rewards.  It is a great family activity that pays you back with amazing food and wealth that you have grown your own food. It teaches our children about hard work and how things grow, it is truly a simple way to give back and teach the next generation about clean eating and the benefits of farming home grown food. Try it, you won't regret it no matter how small or what you grow.

Leaving A Legacy

Well I think my son gets the point, I workout almost daily.  He gets to take pictures and be in them when he "feels" like it!  But most important is the fact that he knows it's a daily routine and part of our lives.  He is a very active kid, helps around the farm without being asked.  He "loves doing yard work', his words.  He really enjoys helping his grandparents do things here as well, weeding, trimming, planting, and even poop patrol.  It is very important to teach your children to "help" you and others thus instilling in them a work ethic and respect for the things that they have.

Too many kids these days feel entitled to things and do not want to or do not think they have to work for them.  My child will never be that kid!  He has chores at 4 years old and he understands it's a team effort.  I am not saying he loves doing them all the time but most days he is amazing at helping out.  Most of you who know us know he loves anything garbage, he even takes ours up our steep driveway and pulls them down. Most days he even wants to bring down the neighbors......UGH!

My point is have your kids get involved in your workouts/fitness, teach them to be healthy and active, and give them daily chores (even if it takes twice as long to get them done), it will make the world a better place for us to leave behind!

Is age really just a number?

"Is Age Really Just A Number"?

In my humble opinion yes but lately I must say I am questioning my own thoughts!  I recently had a hip injury of unknown origin and of course self diagnosed as bursitis, makes most sense.  I really wanted to get a walker and call it a day but I am only 42 (43 February 20th but I am 42!) and can not let that tennis ball conversation start at this juncture, you know the one we will all have in the Internal Medicine doctors office with the other folks of age regarding what balls slide best?  I was very discouraged when I couldn't do my daily workouts and even Pilates and Yoga were just too much! What is one to do when these things start happening? I am an older mom and there is no way I can sit around and do nothing. I tried various yoga poses and wow did that make me feel older and way less limber than I thought.  I completely thought a back-bend was doable, well let me tell you, after one attempt my back and hamstring were screaming louder than my hip!  I guess my point is if we stay set in our ways of one particular exercise rĂ©gime we may be neglecting some important body functions, such as hip/joint mobility and our ability to do the things we did as twelve year olds on the playground, you know back-bends, hand-stands, and cart-wheels.  My final resolution to this mishap is to start stepping outside of my high intensity workouts and incorporate some real Yoga and Pilates into my life, it might actually loosen up more than my muscles, as some mothers of 4 year olds need.

So until next time as I will soon be saying, "Namaste".
